An Asphalt driveway generally looks good only if it still sports an even surface. As we know already, it is made up of tiny rocks that are bound together by asphalt. As it ages, the asphalt is damaged away from the surface and the tiny rocks are detached as well. Water can then loosen them and eventually break the driveway apart. Such said, asphalt sealers do not just restore the smooth look. It actually protects your driveway from deteriorating and extends its life.

If you are the sort of guy who like doing things yourself, it is easy to put on Asphalt Sealers by yourself. In fact, a lot of people are doing it without professional help so it should be an easy job. Below is a list of things you might want to know before you try doing it yourself.

When buying asphalt sealer products and equipments, be sure to buy a couple more buckets than your estimate if it is your first time. The next time around, you will have a pretty good idea on how much you really need for your driveway.

It is important to know the weather before you schedule your resealing task. Ideally, it should be a cloudy day with no rain in the forecast for the next 24 hours. A hot sunny weather will make it difficult to spread the sealcoat as it may dry very quickly. But heavy rain will wash it away before it hardens and sticks.

Do not wear clothing that you do not want to damage. Your pair of favorite sneakers can be the first casualty on an asphalt sealing day.

Be sure to clean your driveway thoroughly before application. Trim the grass around the edges and sweep away or hose off dirt, loose asphalt and other debris on holes and cracks.

If there are big gaping holes, be sure to repair them before sealing the whole area. Asphalt patching materials are available in the same store where you buy sealers and asphalt sealer equipments.

Normal everyday use plus harsh weather conditions can loosen up the top layer of asphalt on your driveway, leading to erosion. Moisture would then begin penetrating the asphalt, slowly breaking up its surface through time. At first, you may only notice small, seemingly inconsequential defects, but these will later form into cracks. The cracks will then allow water and ice to penetrate driveways, eventually breaking up the asphalt.

The best way to prevent this is sealcoating driveways to protect from damage caused by weather conditions, gasoline and oil spills, oxidation, and normal wear-and-tear. Here are some of the reasons why you should take the extra expense and having your driveway sealcoated.

Sealcoating gives your driveway a jet black finish. Remember that the driveway is usually the first thing that people will see when visiting your house, so having a driveway that looks vibrantly black makes for a very good first impression.

Sealcoating locks out all kinds of spills to prevent damages caused by oil, sand, salt, gasoline, and any other chemical that may accidentally dribble into the asphalt.

Sealcoating fights oxidation by reinstalling the binder into the pavement. This will further help prevent damages to your driveway.

Sealcoating protects your driveway from harsh weather conditions and all the damaging effects associated with it. It blocks out rain, hail and snow from entering the asphalt, and resists the discoloring effect of sunlight.

Sealcoating reduces the amount of preventive maintenance that you need to do. Depending on the asphalt usage, you need to have your driveway sealcoated every few years or so, which can prevent more costly damage.

Sealcoating preserves your investment by keeping your driveway looking new for years. Because a new driveway is very expensive, the key is to maintain the driveway you have regularly so that it will always stay looking new.

Sealcoating can be expensive, but it is worth the expense in the long run. If you’re interested to have this done to your driveway, check out your local sealcoating business office for a quotation or learn how to do it on your own by using the necessary sealcoating equipments.

It is always convenient to drive on smooth surfaces. It is also always better if we have smooth driveways, which is probably why many of us are taking bold steps to transform our driveways into an extension of the concrete roads, free from potholes, gravels, debris and with grass by the side.

In the process of transforming our driveways into something more pleasing to the eyes, we now consider driveway sealers.

We should take note however that not all driveway sealers are the same, in the same manner that it differs from the results and costs too. There are some driveway sealer products offering cheap packages but does not guarantee durability, while there are those claiming to be reasonably priced but guarantees longer use.

It is always imperative on our part that we maximize our resources, value our hard-earned finances by getting our money’s worth and get results expected of what we paid for.

It is a must on our part to choose the right sealer and have it properly laid down in our driveway, for an upgraded look. Other than enhancing the physical attributes of our driveway, sealing it would also prolong the usage of our cars as “uneven roads and driveways” makes many of our vehicles vulnerable to defects — under-chassis at that.

Driveway sealers need not be administered by the professionals. Asking the professionals to do the stuff would require us to shell out more. The truth is we can seal our driveways all by ourselves. It is just a matter of choosing the right driveway sealer and the proper application.

What should we consider in choosing the right driveway sealer? There are lots to consider, but the three top considerations would be performance, safety and appearance. It is also imperative to know how long it would last, although it is a given fact that given the right application and the proper maintenance, the driveway seal would last for years.

Two common types of driveway sealers are acrylic and the epoxies and the polyurethane. They have different driveway sealer drying time. Acrylic sealers dry as fast as an hour, while epoxies and polyurethane sealers require at least 24 hours to dry up. There are instructional guides we should follow in case we would do it ourselves.
